Teaching Philosophy and Experience
I have had the good fortune of teaching both traditional classroom courses as well as a number of study abroad programs. While I enjoy classroom teaching, I have the greatest passion teaching programs abroad because it's a unique and life-changing experience for students, and is most effective at student learning. I've taught programs (9 in total to date) in Costa Rica, Panama, and Malaysian Borneo.
You can see example syllabi from each of these three programs: Costa Rica, Panama, Borneo.
As for traditional classroom teaching, I actively experiment with different pedagogical styles to make teaching as effective as possible. I have experience as a teaching assistant for Introductory Biology labs at both Michigan State University and the University of Mississippi. Currently, I teach Genetics labs at the University of Mississippi.
